Will UP’s poor reward BJP for THIS scheme?

Ahead of the election in Uttar Pradesh, analysts are busy assessing the popularity of the BJP government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In this regard, a particular scheme that came into effect in 2020, during the pandemic-induced lockdown, is said to have cemented the fate in favour of the ruling party.

An article by Swarajya Mag says that as many as 1,30,07,969 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana and 13,41,77,983 ration card holders have been receiving extra ration of wheat, rice, pulses and edible oil every month. “The eligible ration card holders are getting a total of 10 kg free ration (6 kg wheat and 4 kg rice) per family member every month. Earlier this was 5 kg per unit (3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice) every month. Since November the same amount is being given twice a month,” the article says.

It has to be seen if this factor will overwhelm the caste arithmetic and wean voters to choose BJP.
