Sri Lankan public are fed up with the financial crisis that the country is facing from past two months. The situation is so bad that the citizens had to join protests against their president and government. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa had to resign to their positions and move away from their official residences as well.

Rajapaksa family home has been burnt few weeks ago by protestors. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned and Renil Wickremesinghe started handling the duties. With IMF deal not closing soon and government officials asked to stay home, the financial crisis in the country has reached to its peak.

Protestors have come on roads until Rajapaksa agreed to resign and leave Presidential residence. Kumara Sangakara, Sanath Jayasuriya supported people’s movement. Now, the major opposition has also announced their Presidential candidate, Sajith Premadasa. Hence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa have decided to flee from the country, before Gotabaya submits resignation.

Basil has been sent back from airport by the protestors and even customs officials did not allow him to pass through the security. He worked as Finance Minister and he would have to face arrest and charges when new government comes into power. He will be asked to give clarification about the situation and what decisions have resulted in such crisis.

Gotabaya, even though he is still the President, no official is listening to him while they are protecting him from protestors, they are not allowing him to flee from the country. He is slated to submit his resignation by Wednesday, With this Rajapaksa clan’s dominance in SL politics seems to have come to an end.
