Sri Lanka New PM takes oath but people still protest

Sri Lanka is going through worst possible economic crisis and the island nation needs quick revival from the problems it has been facing. Ex Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa faced huge amount of dissatisfaction from public and he had to forcefully resign from his office owing to the violent protests against him and the ministers.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed United National Party president Ranil Wickremesinghe as the new Prime Minister of the nation. He took oath at the president’s residence late in the night on Thursday.

People still did not stop protesting even though President has issued shoot at sight orders against the protestors till Friday evening. New Prime Minister Ranil took the office four times and he is a veteran in National politics.

Largest Opposition party of the nation refused to join the government headed by any person from Rajapaksa clan and hence, president used his discretionary powers to appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister.
