India wins big against Afghanistan in Super Eights

India won their first game in Super Eights of T20 World Cup 2024 against spirited Afghanistan. In this game, Indian bowlers did not let Afghan batters to even take the game deep with wickets at regular intervals. Mainly, Jasprit Bumrah with 20 dot balls in his 4 overs and put a tight leash on Afghans.

Going into the details, India won the toss and elected to bat first. But Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struggled with swinging ball. Rohit got out trying to force the scoring and even Kohli fell after scoring 24 from 24. Rishabh Pant lent an aggressive hand with 20 runs from 11 balls but got out to Rashid Khan.

World No.1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav took the situation under control while Shivam Dubey(10) failed against Rashid. Hardik Pandya gave a helping hand with 32 from 24 balls while SKY scored 53 from just 28 balls. With good hits from Axar Patel(12), India ended up scoring 181/8 in their 20 overs.

Rashid Khan(3/26) and Fazalhaq Farooqi(3/33) restricted majority of Indian batters. In the chase, Afghanistan lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz(11) after he started innings aggressively, to Bumrah. Except for Azmatullah Omarzai(26) everyone failed to force the innings.

Jasprit Bumrah(3/7), Arshdeep Singh(3/36), Kuldeep Yadav(2/32), Ravindra Jadeja(1/20), Axar Patel(1/15) took wickets for India. They restricted Afganistan to 134 in 20 overs and Indian team won by 47 runs starting their Super Eights campaign well.
