India has been able to beat Pakistan in big World Cup matches. They did the same again in New York, USA in T20 World Cup 2024. While in Adelaide, Australia 2022, Virat Kohli helped them to score 28 runs from 8 balls, this time Jasprit Bumrah took key wickets. While they won with bat in 2022, bowlers won them in 2024.
Going into the details, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. India openers did not find it easy to score on the pitch. Virat Kohli(4) fell early and Rohit Sharma(13) fell for left arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi again. But Rishabh Pant kept scoring in unique ways and scored 42 runs from 31 balls. He took India to 89/3 in 11 overs.
But Pakistan bowlers came back and dismissed India to 119 in 19 overs. Batting team looked set for crossing 140 but Pak bowlers did not let them in the last 10 overs. Naseem Shah(3/21), Haris Rauf(3/21), Mohammad Amir(2/23), Shaheen Shah Afridi(1/29) took wickets.
In the chase, Babar Azam tried to use powerplay overs but fell for 13 from 10 balls. Batters following him also found it difficult to score and got out around same scores. Mohammad Rizwan looked like taking Pakistan to winning shores. Jasprit Bumrah bowled him for 31 runs from 44 balls bringing India back into the game.
While Pakistan needed only one from each ball throughout the innings, bowlers did not let them score freely. Hardik Pandya(2/24), Axar Patel(1/11), Arshdeep Singh(1/31) took wickets at key times in the Pak innings helping Jasprit Bumrah(3/14). India won the match by 6 runs restricting Pakistan to 113/7 in their 20 overs.
