T20 World Cup 2024: England crushes Namibia and advances to Super 8

England sail through to Super 8 after crushing Namibia

England found themselves in a tricky situation when rain interrupted their first match against Scotland. They lost to Australia, in their next match. Hence, their chances to advance to Super 8 in T20 World Cup 2024 came under scanner. They needed big wins against Oman and Namibia to overcome NRR of Scotland.

England chances again came under question after huge win against Oman. Their match against Namibia has been interrupted by rain twice when their batters looked on song after a delayed start. Earlier, Namibia won the toss and elected to field first. Phil Salt and Jos Buttler started the innings in a circumspect way.

Jos Buttler got out for a duck, early. Phil Salt(11) also got out for a low score. Jonny Bairstow scored 31 runs from 18 balls taking score from 13/2. Harry Brook also scored quickly against Namibia and scored 47 runs from 20 balls. Moeen Ali scored 16 runs from 6 balls and Liam Livingstone scored 13 runs from 4 balls to finish the innings on a high.

England scored 122/5 in their 10 overs after match got reduced to T10 due to rain. In the chase, Namibia openers gave their team a good start. But not a perfect and apt start that would have helped them to chase the big target. David Wiese could only trouble English bowlers with 27 runs from 12 balls. Namibia managed to score 84/3 in their 10 overs.

England won the match by 41 runs under DLS method. With this win, England’s NRR stayed on top of Scotland. Had the match been abandoned or canceled due to rain, they would have ended with 4 points. Scotland would have advanced to Super 8. Now, England advanced at second place from Group B.
