Panchayat Season 3 Web Series Rating: 3/5

Panchayat has been one of the biggest successes among Indian web-series released post pandemic and surge of OTT platforms. The reach of this web series has been so huge that people have been asking for new season as soon as the release of the previous one.

After super successful first and second seasons, the makers have released Season 3 on 28th May 2024. Here’s our take on the latest season of this rural comedy.

The main plotline of this season follows Phulera’s politics and the village’s clash with MLA or Vidhayak. As a sub-plot, it brings Prahlad’s grief stricken journey into the forefront as well. Normally, from a comedy or human emotions based series we expect moments that make us laugh out loud and touch our heart, consistently.

Panchayat Season 3 Web Series Review and Rating

Panchayat shocked everyone in the first season with a realistic and satirical take on things while creating many moments to cherish. Second one, followed it up with some more memorable ones while it did not create same impact as the first one. Still, it had moments to remember.

The third season tries to take things to next level of conflict from the word go. Right from Sachiv’s transfer to his selfless deed in rightful anger for his “village” friends in the end, this season gives him a better character development.

The man who came to the village as part of his personal escape from his situation has been able to make a family of his own. While this dynamic shines bright in this season, the love story never progresses even one step. Also, moments involving Prahlad strike a chord but Raghubir and Neena scenes don’t come across with same effectiveness.

Pankaj Jha’s MLA character and his performance too, don’t stand out or instill fear as much as we anticipate. Dramedy has the strength of this series and this season tried hard to make it more dramatic. At places, we do miss the old world charm that this show provided in previous seasons. Writer and makers have evidently took an effort to make it for another season or two.

Panchayat Season 3 doesn't disappoint yet not as effective
Panchayat Season 3 doesn’t disappoint yet not as effective

While the social satire narrative does have a heart at the right place, the writing and conflict could have been much better. On the whole, this season of Panchayat does provide some memories but not at the level of previous ones.

Positives:
Ensemble performances
Few moments
Witty one-liners
Realistic staging and taking

Negatives:
A little draggy narrative
Plot seems to hover around one not so interesting topic
Writing could have been better

Panchayat Season 3 Bottom-line: Watchable yet not worthy successor.
