Ranil Wickremesinghe elected as new Sri Lanka President

Ranil Wickremesinghe has been appointed as acting Sri Lanka President by Gotabaya Rajapaksa before resigning to his post as President. He ran out of the country after citizens have conducted huge civil protests against him, ex-Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other Rajapaksa family members as well.

Gotabaya reached Singapore and then sent his resignation. Ranil Wickremesinghe has asked Army to control the riots using all kinds of possible methods. Even shoot on sight orders have been issued say media networks.

Now, Sri Lankan Parliament have voted for their new President on 20th July, 2022. Dullas Alahapperuma and Anura Kumara Dissanayake have contested against Ranil. Wikremesinghe got 134 votes out of 219 votes.

MPs of Sri Lanka have been asked to not bring their phones. The elections have been held in secret ballot system. Ranil Wickremesinghe has been announced as the new President of the country by Parliament.
