Rahul Gandhi wades into ‘Hijab’ issue

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that girl students who have been refused entry into schools for wearing Hijab have been robbed of an education. In his tweet today, the Wayanad MP said that their future will be affected negatively.

“By letting students’ hijab come in the way of their education, we are robbing the future of the daughters of India. Ma Saraswati gives knowledge to all. She doesn’t differentiate,” Gandhi tweeted.

His tweet is in reference to the ongoing row at the Bhandarkars Arts and Science Degree College in Kundapur, a coastal town in the Udupi district of Karnataka.

As per media reports, Hindu male students yesterday tried to enter the school with saffron carves and were refused entry. “There is no discrimination on the basis of religion in the college. Uniform is meant for all. There should be no favouritism towards any minority community,” a Facebook user commented.
