Cheteshwar Pujara has been facing the axe with new breed of youngsters in Indian Cricket banging the doors and selectors cannot ignore them for long. Pujara even though has experience and skill, he hasn’t been in great form in recent years at International level. On top of that, his scoring rate has put pressure on other batsmen in key situations.
While his style of slow batting did help India in stemming the fall of wickets in several matches, his approach did frustrate fans as he used up 100-120 balls to just score 12-15 runs in few recent International innings. Dropping him and Ajinkya Rahane from Test team to give Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hanuma Vihari a more consistent and regular run in the team has been quite popular debate.
Putting an end to those debates, Pujara is showing top class form in County Cricket in 2022 season. Indian Cricket Board, BCCI allowed several central contracted players to play in County cricket if they are not a part of IPL and there is no other domestic tournament or International tournament that they are part off.
Pujara scored his 4th hundred this season for Sussex in a losing cause against Middlesex. As Indian team needs to visit England for one Test match later this Summer, Pujara might be the key batsman in this tour, with his County experience.
