Nissanka’s Century helps SL win 3rd ODI against SL

Australia dominated Sri Lanka in the T20I series but Sri Lanka is able to fight back in the ODI series. They won back to back matches against slightly depleted Australia due to injuries to main players. Josh Hazlewood is the only first choice bowler available for the team and he had an bad day for his standards.

Australia batted first to set up a big target. Aaron Finch scored 62 runs and fell when the score is 121/3 making it 121/4. Alex Carey (49) and Travis Head came together with a 70 run partnership. Carey fell before getting 50 and Maxwell joined Head. Maxwell scored 33 runs off 18 balls giving momentum to the innings and propelling the score to 290. Head (70) remained not out.

Sri Lanka needed a good start from in-form opener Pathum Nissanka and Niroshan Dickwella. Nissanka looked to consolidate at the crease while Dickwella tried his unique shots. After Dickwella’s fall, Nissanka and Kushal Mendis came together. They looked unstoppable and could have won the game on their own. But Mendis retired hurt due to an injury and at 87 returned back to hut. The score was on 212 by then.

Nissanka carried on to score a century and win the game for Sri Lanka. He fell at score on 284 after scoring 137. Shanaka fell immediately for a duck but Asalanka finished the game without giving chance to a wobble. Sri Lanka lead the series by 2-1.
