Multiple release dates: Much ado about nothing

After ‘Roudram Ranam Rudhiram’ announced two release dates (one main date, the other one a backup date), ‘Bheemla Nayak’ and ‘Ghani’, too, have done a similar thing. ‘Ante Sundaraniki’, in a lighter vein, has taken the trend to a whole new level by announcing seven dates.

There is a view that producers are creating confusion by announcing multiple dates. This is much ado about nothing. There is nothing new in producers having more than one release date in mind. What is new is that they have started saying it openly.

In trade circles, distributors are conveyed probable release dates, which may be two or even three. It has been happening for years. ‘RRR’ started saying it openly. And other producers seem to have felt that it might not be funny to put out two release dates in the open. And that’s what they are doing. ‘Ghani’ will release either on February 25 or March 4. The dates are in consecutive weeks. If you think of it, dozens of films finalize such dates routinely.
