Kalki 2898 AD makers have decided to create and expand Kalki cinematic Universe even before the movie release. Vijayanthi Movies have completed 50 years in movie production and hence, they wanted to make a film that lasts for ages. Nag Ashwin, who delivered a classic like Mahanati, has come up with this larger than life sci-fi movie for Indian Cinema.
Before the release of the film, the makers started huge promotional campaign with Prabhas’s car, Bujji. They released a short animation series on Amazon Prime Video featuring characters from the film as Bujji and Bhairava with just 2 episodes.
The series tries to introduce us to the dystopian world that Indian society lives in during 2898 AD. Bhairava, who hails from Kashi/ Varanasi, wants to enter the complex for unpolluted air and tasty food. Rebels try to steal food from the complex for their living.
Bhairava becomes a bounty hunter to afford life in complex. But in reality, he doesn’t have a good vehicle to achieve his ambition. Can Bujji become that missing puzzle in his life to achieve his goal? Watch Bujji and Bhairava.
Well, animation for Indian standards is qualitative and story is easy on kids to enjoy. Makers did not let the proceedings be too serious at the same time, they did not make them too comical. Still, there is heavy dose of predictability within the two episodes itself.
Maybe a bit more work on screenplay and scenes would have made it even unique among the countless English animation series that follow such plotlines. The content is good enough for introduction of the world but it needed a little bit more imagination for entire movie-lovers to fall in love like crazy.
The dynamic between Bujji and Bhairava needed a little bit more wit and some more creative progression. Having said that, within the story they have created, they introduced the characters and their dynamics well enough.
Visuals seem to have been inspired from Star Wars films, Total Recall, Mandalorian, Wall-E and few more such films. A little bit more innovation could have helped it make it as unique as they could have. On the whole, this one a decent start to huge Kalki 2898 AD cinematic universe.
