Mohammad Zubair gets interim bail from Supreme Court

ALT News co-founder Mohammad Zubair has been arrested for posting derogatory tweets that hurt religious sentiments and objectionable in 2018. UP Police have registered 7 FIRs and Delhi Police have also registered a FIR against him.

Supreme Court granted him interim bail and asked him to submit 20k worth bonds. SC also ordered that all the UP FIRs to be combined and transferred to Special Cell constituted by Delhi Police.

The important orders from the SC judgement are: (as posted on Twitter)

Order : (1) The petitioner shall stand enlarged on interim bail subject to his filing a personal bond for Rs 20K in connection with the following FIRs (7 UP FIRs mentioned).

Order : (2) The investigation into the above FIRs shall stand transferred from the Uttar Pradesh Police to the Special Cell of Delhi Police, as a consequence of which the SIT constituted by UP Police DGP shall stand disbanded.

Order:(3) The directions contained in (1) & (2) above shall extend to any other FIR which may be registered against petitioner hereafter on the subject matter, in which event, the investigation of the FIR shall stand transferred to Delhi Police & he will be entitled to bail.

Order : (4) Petitioner would be at liberty to pursue his remedies under art 226/482 CrpC in respect of the FIRs registered against him before Delhi HC.

Well, Supreme Court has given Mohammad Zubair big relief from going around appearing in courts and being in jail in judicial custodies due to several FIRs. Patiala Court House and Supreme Court have found him committing no offense as he did not use any abusive words in his tweets. But SC did observe that he did post tweets that invited action by UP Police.
