“Drop Kohli” has become the new slogan that every legendary, veteran, senior cricketer from Indian cricket have to say. Kapil Dev stated few days ago that with youngsters in form, Virat Kohli doesn’t walk into the team like he did before. He said that he prefers a young batsmen who is in form over a person with huge reputation but failing continuously.
Then Amit Mishra, defended him saying that he will come back to form Today or Tomorrow. He shouldn’t take the pressure and he should bat freely. Sunil Gavaskar talked about Virat Kohli’s approach and said that he shouldn’t become a walking wicket.
Ravi Shastri, former head coach, who has been working closely alongside Captain Kohli as coach stated that Virat Kohli is human and he is bound to go through low phases. He stated that resting won’t do any good for him. Rohit Sharma defended Virat Kohli and said that he doesn’t know who these experts are and he backs Virat’s ability to perform at any time. He backed his approach despite Virat scoring only 12 runs with an average of 6.00 in two matches, he played.
Now, senior bowler Venkatesh Prasad had very strong words to say on this issue. He stated that no one should be treated as above the game as even Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh got dropped when not performing. Also, he remembered Anil Kumble sitting out, when he happened to be out of form.
Looks like the cricket wheel of time keeps turning on its head with the iconic cricketers. They grow to icons status with consistency and suddenly when they don’t perform for a period of time, they cannot be shown the door like some others and waiting for them to come to form might blow off the careers of some other aspiring ones. Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virendra Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh all had to go through such lows and now, its Kohli’s time!
