IPL PLAYOFFS 2022: GT QUALIFY TO IPL FINAL!

As expected Gujarat Titans found themselves chasing and they chased down huge score like they did in most of the tournament. They have chased down 50 from last three or four overs on 3 occasions in the league stage and their big guns fired on the most important day. Bowling as usual did not seem like their strong suite. But batting delivered for the new team to reach finals.

Earlier, Jos Buttler after series of failures, road his luck to score 89 on most important day for Rajasthan Royals. He seemed completely out of sorts for majority of his innings but luck went his way. Edges flew to boundaries, miss shots fell short of fielders and at one point Hardik Pandya slipped when he was set to take the catch. During the final overs, Jos found his rhythm and hit big sixes.

Sanju Samson with 47 from 26 and Devdutt Padikkal with 28 from 20 played handy blinders to keep RR in the hunt when their star batsman was struggling. Sanju Samson’s innings had classy shots mixed with elegance and aggression. He looked like set for a century but a miss-timed shot end his glorious, impactful and short innings.

For Gujarat, Shubman Gill came good with 35 from 21 balls which was cut short by run out as Matthew Wade couldn’t call early. But Gill’s innings can be termed as highlight of the match after David Miller’s antics. Miller like Buttler started off very slow and Hardik Pandya took off in his innings. In the final overs, Miller found his rhythm and smacked even Purple Cap holder, Chahal for sixers. When it mattered he found 3 back to back sixes against Prasidh Krishna. Sanju Samson’s calculation to give an inexperienced bowler like Krishna, the final over cost them the match.

Rajasthan Royals still have a chance as they finished second on the table. They will face winner of the second qualifier between RCB and LSG. RCB will be looking to put LSG under pressure as this young team never won against the RCB in the league stage. In fact LSG did not win against even one team in the league stage that made to final four. We have to wait and see, if like GT, LSG can also find some beginners luck to turn the tables and win against fan favourites RCB.
