Disney Star and Viacom-Reliance have fought vigorously for three days of e-auction and got IPL Media rights for the period of 2023-2027 for a total of 6 Billion. Total cumulative revenue from Package A, Package B, Package C and Package D sales has yielded USD 6.2 Billion to BCCI.
This is huge for any cricket league around the world. Voot and Jio TV will stream IPL matches digitally for next five years in India, Australia an New Zealand, UK and South Africa regions. Disney will broadcast on TV the matches live over the same period, globally.
Disney paid Rs. 23,575 crores (USD 3 Billion) and Viacom – Reliance paid Rs. 23,758 crores (USD 3 Billion) for their respective package deals. Times Internet got Middle East and USA regions streaming rights, Package D for Rs. 463 crores (USD 59.63 Million).
Now, IPL is just behind NFL in per-match value reported ESPNCricinfo. In Indian rupees per match value of IPL is Rs. 108 – 140 crores (important matches will get Rs. 33 crores extra per match from Viacom for non-exclusive package). This is historic and IPL could be defining future for International Cricket too as many cricketers will look to not miss IPL with the kind of money it can offer and exposure.
