India at CWG 2022: Weightlifters shine with 3 Golds

Indian athletes, weightlifters, boxers, women’s cricket team, men’s and women’s hockey teams, table tennis players, badminton players, shooters, archers have gone to Birmingham to participate in Commonwealth Games, 2022. Many anticipated Indian tally to be better than previous ones as Indian citizens started concentrating on sports as well. Mainly, world level weightlifters, boxing players, badminton players, shooters have been coming up in India and expectations have been huge from all of them.

Weightlifters have brought pride to India in the first three days by winning medals as anticipated. Saikhom Mirabhai Chanu won first Gold for India in 49kg category by lifting 201kg weight.

On Day 3, In Men’s 67kg category, 19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifted 300kg to win the Gold for India. He has braved through his injuries and pain to bring this honor. Later, in 73kg category, Achinta Sheuli lifted 313kg setting Commonwealth games record to win Gold.

With this Indian tally has risen to 3 Golds. Previouslyt, Sanket Sargar and Bindyarani Devi won Silver Medals in 55kgs Men’s and Women’s categories, respectively. Gururaja Poojary won Bronze Medal in Men’s 61 kg weightlifting competition. Total medal tally for India is 6 and all of them have come from weightlifting competitions.

Table Tennis, Badminton and Cricket teams have moved forward with thumping victories. Indian Boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Bargohain advanced to quarter finals. Women’s Cricket Team has won against Pakistan and now, they have to win against Barbados to make to Quarter-Finals.
