South Africa and England played their first T20I at Bristol on 27th July. SA won the toss and elected to field first. England started the innings with Jos Buttler and Jason Roy opening the innings. Buttler scored 22 from 7 balls and got out. Roy struggled to score 8 from 15 balls before he go out.
Dawid Malan scored 43 runs off 23 balls. Then Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali came together and put up 106 runs stand. Bairstow couldn’t go on to score his century as his fell on 90 in the penultimate ball. Moeen Ali scored a destructive 52 runs off 18 balls. England scored 234/6 in their 20 overs. Lungi Ngidi took 5 wickets for SA.
South Africa started their chase by losing quick wickets for 7 on board. Reeza Hendricks scored 57 runs off 33 balls. But Tristan Stubbs impressed everyone with his fiery innings. He scored 72 runs off 28 balls and gave tremors to England camp.
But South Africa fell short of the target by 41 runs by scoring just 193/8 in their 20 overs chase against England’s 234. Second T20I will be played at Cardiff on 28th July.
