BJP played their game perfectly to not let ex-CM Uddhav Thackeray to rise his voice against them. Uddhav challenged BJP and commented that Eknath Shinde did all this to become Deputy Chief Minister. He commented that he would have given to him and he would love to see ShivSena running the government and get Chief Minister post even in BJP alliance.
BJP did exactly that. They gave Shivsena senior leader, Eknath Shinde the Chief Minister post and even though they have 106 MLAs in Assembly, they let Shivsena leader to be CM. Eknath Shinde claimed to have 50 MLAs support for him and with this move, he might attract every MLA to his side.
Uddhav Thackeray gave up on MLC post as well. Aditya Thackeray is too young to take over and Eknath Shinde seems to have taken over the power from Thackerays. If Shinde appears to be following Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology more precisely than Uddhav, he could end up tearing up Shivsena vote bank.
BJP might be able attract those vote banks as a stable alternative. While Shinde will try to lead Shivsena, Thackerays and their loyal supporters like Sanjay Raut, cadre will not easily give up. This will unstable Shivsena for sure. Devendra Fadnavis has become Deputy Chief Minister as BJP representative in the new government.
By adding fuel to the disappointment and dissatisfaction caused due to Uddhav Thackeray’s decision to join Congress and NCP, who are identified as biggest rivals by Balasaheb Thackeray, BJP is able to divide Shivsena and now, integral part of Shivsena has rebelled against Thackerays. If Shinde establishes that Shivsena can exist besides Thackerays, then BJP will have an alliance partner for life. Looks like BJP’s high command looked at long term advantage than short term gain to form the government.
