IPL has completed 14 seasons and Men have been playing it out in all the seasons. The 15th season will start next year and if the format is retained and teams perform, it could be another blockbuster season. More about IPL in our separate write-up.
Australian cricket board has come up with Big Bash League alike IPL but they came up with Women’s special league, WBBL. Indian Cricket board that is the richest in the world can support such women’s league and hope to see growth in Women cricketers as well. Smriti Mandanna, Harmanpreet Kaur, Shefali Verma have already become stars in International arena and they participated in WBBL too. Radha Yadav, Pooja Vastrakar are also growing as stars.
Finally, Indian board started conducting Women’s T20 Challenge and Alana King, Sune Luus, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, Laura Wolvaardt, Sophia Dunley kind of stars are part of the league. Only three teams are participating – Trailblazers, Velocity and Supernovas. In the two matches conducted Supernovas won against Trailblazers and Velocity won against Supernovas.
Next match between Trailblazers and Velocity will be conducted on 26th May and Final between Table toppers will be held on 28th May. Harmanpreet Kaur blasted 71 off 51 balls to take her team Supernovas to 150/5 but Shefali Verma’s blistering 50 off 30 balls and Laura Wolvaardt’s 51 off 35 balls helped Velocity chase the target down.
In other news, Sri Lanka is on 210/4 against Bangladesh on Day 3 and the play is delayed due to Rain since few minutes before Lunch and entire second session got washed away. Due to wet outfield even third session after TEA did not start, by the time we received updates. Dimuth Karunaratne got out on 80 for a Shakib-al-Hasan ball. Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva have stitched a partnership together before rain interrupted play.
