Box Office: Trade disappointed with Acharya

Megastar Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan acted for the first time together in a movie in full length roles, in Acharya. They did few cameos before in Bruce Lee, Magadheera and Khaidi No.150. Koratala Siva directed the movie and it released on 29th April. Movie on the opening day shocked fans and trade with low collections than the expectations.

Being a movie from the biggest star of Telugu Cinema and most popular actor among Telugu households for two generations, they have expected first day records and collections as big as RRR on the first day. But the movie collected 20% less than the expected numbers even though it released in most number of theatres.

It is really shocking for a movie starring Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan together to take such low opening. Trade is now trying to find reasons for such an opening. Few are saying that the teasers and trailers did not reach to the public as much as the movie team hoped. Also, the late start of promotions, movie team started promoting just a week before the release of the movie and it did not help the buzz.

Now, trade is worried about the second day and third day numbers. As the word of mouth is not that positive. Mostly, such big multistarrer films collect huge during the opening weekend and distributors think they are safe bets as they collect back the investment with those opening day collections. Just to see their favourite actors together people come to theatres but somehow after RRR and KGF Chapter 2, people seem to have no intention to come to theatres with high prices.

As theatres went for huge price hikes on par with KGF Chapter 2, and the buzz did not match that film, such low numbers have been reported. Mani Sharma BGM is apt for film but his songs did not reach into the public as much as they should have for a big film like Acharya. Now, Sarkaaru Vaari Paata team has to start promoting their movie more to increase the buzz taking Acharya as the example.
