Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar is no more

The Nightingale of India has fallen silent, leaving us all in grief.  Indians lost one more great Icon today who brought happiness to millions of music lovers across the globe. With her voice, many actresses rose to stardom.

 In 2020, we lost Legend SP Balasubramaniam.  Due to Corona, Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai in January. Since then, Lata ji who has been getting treatment for Covid in ICU has left her last breath today.

Lata aka Hema Mangeshkar ji was 92 years old. She was born on 29th September 1929 to Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanthi. Her father was a Marathi and Konkani musician. She sang in more than 36 Indian languages and foreign languages. As per Wikipedia, she was honoured by the Indian government with Dada Saheb Phalke(in 1987) and Bharat Ratna(in 2001, India’s highest civil honour).

In her career, many awards have been bestowed on the Legend. She was the first Indian to perform in Royal Albert Hall, London in 1974.  France conferred on her its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007.

She  was the eldest and had four siblings Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
