Akhilesh Yadav promises to give BPL families Rs 18,000 per year

Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has promised that his government will provide a pension of Rs 18,000 annually to underprivileged women and families below the poverty line. This was Rs 6,000 in the previous government led by Yadav.

This figure is meant per family. Women will stand to benefit from the scheme. The talk is that the SP supremo wants to woo women voters by promising a higher annual welare benefit.

Non-Yadav OBC voters and Dalits need to vote for SP in large numbers if it has to come to power. At present, non-Yadav OBCs and non-Jatav Dalits are believed to be inclined to voting for BJP in large numbers.

The results to elections will be announced on March 10.
